Children and Young People’s News, October 2019

October sees a busy programme for Children, Families and Young People at Dorking URC

Weds October 2nd sees the annual Smallfry Harvest Celebration at 10.15 in the morning. A time of activities, song and celebration in the church with the opportunity for anyone wishing to to make tinned or packet food donations to the Dorking Area Foodbank, or donations of money to support Christian Aid’s Harvest Appeal. The usual Smallfry session continues in the Main Hall afterwards. All ‘little people’ and their carers welcome.

Also on October 2nd the Messy Church theme is “Safe & Sound”  – recalling the story of the lost sheep with, hunts, games,  biscuits, and shepherding sheep!  In all, as always, there will be ten great activities & crafts and a celebration, ending the afternoon with the traditional “Messy Pasta” and great anticipation for November 4th, our next Messy Church Session where our theme will be “Listening & Learning”.  Please add Messy to your diaries and share this event with your friends.  It is on the first Wednesday of every month from 3.30-6pm, ALL are welcome!

Our Friends On Faith Adventures (FOFA) Session for October will be on Sunday 6th.  (FOFA is an exciting new resource from the URC and at DURC it will be used on the first Sunday morning of each month).  Please come into church as normal and we will leave together for our FOFA Session shortly after the first Hymn.  Parents if possible please accompany your child to the start of the session.  Parents may then return to join the Morning worship in the worship area and will then be asked to collect your children from FOFA at the start of the last Hymn.  We hope that you enjoyed the activity sheet that was emailed to you after the last session and we look forward to hearing how FOFA Bear got on with Reggie this month, and FOFA Cam that was in David’s trusty hands.  (Please can FOFA Bear and FOFA Cam be returned on Sunday 6th October (If this is not possible then please pass it to a YC leader before that date – THANKS!)

FOFA Bear and Cam were to help us think about and record where we see or hear God – Where have you seen or heard from God?

If you missed it the take-home sheet it is (attached or can be downloaded here: ).

There are some great pics of the first FOFA here on the DURC Facebook page:

Our Young Church sessions during morning worship for October will be on 13th and 27th .  We are beginning to use the following prayer when we meet together for these sessions.

“God above, God Below, God Bless everyone I know.

God above God Below God bless everywhere I go”

During October Quest (for yr6 and above) meet during morning worship on the 13th and 27th.  On the 13th , amongst other things, the group will be exploring their new Bibles and thinking about how to present their latest movie during All Age Worship the following week (20th).  The movie, ‘The Battle Between the Trees’ was filmed during one of their recent ‘Pizza Nights’ and sums up some of the questions they have been exploring through the ‘Big Take-away Pizza Project’ (BTPP).  The session on 27th will be looking at the next BTPP question, which the group will choose when they meet on the 13th.  There are provisional plans for a Pizza and Games session over half-term, stay tuned for more details. The Bibles generously donated to Quest by Lord Wharton’s Charity have already been put to use during recent sessions.  There are still a couple left to hand out, we look forward to giving them to their owners the next time we see them.

All Age Family Worship

This will take place on Sunday 20th October with the theme Wall and Gates.  Please note there will be NO Tiberias Breakfast Club on this Sunday.

If you have any questions, thoughts or ideas about any of the above, please do speak to one of the Young Church / Quest Leaders.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
