Morning, afternoon and evening activities at Dorking URC for adults

Open Doors Cafe

The Open Doors TAG Café at Dorking United Reformed Church is a warm, welcoming space that opens its doors to the community on Thursday mornings. It runs from 10:00am to 12:00pm, offering hot and cold drinks, homemade cakes, and a relaxed atmosphere where people can gather, chat, and enjoy gentle fellowship in the heart of town.

It’s more than just a café—it’s a place where connections grow. On most Thursdays, the Sow to Grow Group also meets in the church garden, adding a lovely layer of outdoor activity and reflection to the morning. Whether you’re popping in for a cuppa, catching up with friends, or joining in with the garden group, the TAG Café is designed to be inclusive, informal, and nourishing in every sense.

Charity Coffee Mornings

These are held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Thursdays during school holidays when the Café does not operate.  People are invited to arrange coffee mornings in aid of a charity of their choice. Contact us here to do so.

The Thursday Afternoon Group (TAG)

TAG stands for The Thursday Afternoon Group at Dorking United Reformed Church—a warm, inclusive weekly gathering designed especially for differently abled adults, though everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

Here’s what makes TAG special:

🧡 What It’s All About

  • Led by the ever-enthusiastic Dave Lawrence, TAG meets every Thursday during term time for an afternoon of creativity, connection, and laughter.
  • It’s a space where people of all abilities can feel valued, supported, and part of a vibrant community.

🎨 What Happens Each Week

  • Boccia – A gentle, inclusive sport that’s easy to enjoy regardless of mobility or skill level.
  • Quizzes – Fun, interactive, and full of teamwork and smiles.
  • Arts & Crafts – Creative projects tailored to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

☕ The Atmosphere

Whether you’re a regular or joining for the first time, you’ll be met with warmth, encouragement, and a cuppa. It’s a brilliant way to spend an afternoon, make new friends, and feel part of something meaningful.

Small Groups

🌿 Sow to Grow Group

Join us on Thursday mornings from 10:30am to 1:00pm for gentle gardening and good conversation in the church garden. It’s a relaxed, welcoming space to connect with others, enjoy the outdoors, and share in the care of our green spaces.

The group also meets at other times for seasonal activities and social gatherings, arranged to suit the needs and availability of its members. Whether you’re a keen gardener or simply enjoy a chat over a cuppa, you’ll be warmly welcomed.

☕ The Thursday Gathering

Join us on the first Thursday of the month at 11:00am in the Little Chapel for a short, reflective time of worship led by Les Mitchell and others. It’s a gentle and welcoming space to pause midweek, connect with others, and share in prayer and encouragement.

After the service, everyone is warmly invited to continue the conversation over tea and coffee at our Coffee Morning in the Main Hall. Whether you’re a regular or visiting for the first time, you’ll be met with kindness, community, and a cuppa.

The Narnia Group

Meets every other Monday evening (not counting Bank Holiday Mondays) at a 7.30 pm at a local public house  It meets at other times and for other activities at times which suit the group members

Time For Prayer

Time for Prayer is a gentle, welcoming hour set aside for quiet reflection, shared prayer, and spiritual encouragement. It’s open to everyone—whether you’re seeking peace, praying for others, or simply wishing to sit in stillness with God.

The focus is often on:

  • Praying for the church’s work and mission
  • Lifting up individuals and community concerns
  • Offering space for personal prayer and listening

There’s no pressure to speak—just come as you are. Whether you stay for the whole hour or drop in briefly, you’ll be met with warmth and grace.

Join us on the third Thursday of the month at 10:00 in The Living Room
