Worship at Dorking United Reformed Church

“God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth” (John 4: 24)
The aim of Christian Worship is to honour God. True worship is inspired by God and informed by the Bible. It is an interaction between God and ourselves. Through prayers, and the singing of songs and hymns, the reading of the Bible, the preaching of a message, and in various other ways, God “speaks” to us, and we honour Him.
SUNDAY WORSHIP
Our Sunday Service of Worship starts at 10.30 am. Activities for young children are provided at a table near the front of the church. A creche is available.
On the first Sunday of the month, members of ‘Young Church’ join the first part of the service and then leave for their activities. Communion is also celebrated on the first Sunday of the month.
The third service of the month is ‘All-Age’, so members of ‘Young Church’ remain in the church for the whole of the service.
Following our worship, refreshments are served in the Main Hall.
Worship is not confined to being in church; it involves the whole life of the members of the congregation. We are all called to be worshippers.
What happens at church is a focus for the worship we offer through our everyday lives.
Midweek Worship
“You never go away from us, yet we have difficulty in returning to You. Come, Lord, stir us up and call us back. Kindle and seize us. Be our fire and our sweetness. Let us love. Let us run.”
Messy Church
‘Messy Church’ meets in the Main Hall on the first Wednesday of each month from 3.30 to 6.00 pm and is for people of all ages (children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult).
It is a form of worship that involves creativity and hospitality.
The creative activities are based on a Bible theme, and each session ends with a meal (‘Messy Pasta’) at 6.00 pm.

‘The Thursday Gathering’
Meets in the ‘Little Chapel’ at 11.00 am on the first Thursday of each month. Worship is followed by refreshments and time for chat.
‘Time for Prayer’
Meets in the Living Room at 10am on the third Thursday of each month for a gentle time of prayer and reflection.
We begin with a cuppa and conversation, then share prayers—out loud or in silence, with readings or simply by being present.
